Since so many kids are headed back to school this week, I thought I would do a post for educators and parents. Cyberbullying is still a major concern for parents, teachers and kids alike. I did a seven part series last year discussing everything from what it is to how to handle cyberbullying. So when I come across a good site that gives parents and/or kids the tools they need to deal with Cyberbullying, I want you to know about it.
I have told you about Commonsensemedia.org before – they are a great resource for keeping up with the latest technology. They also have a wonderful, informative cyberbullying toolkit called “Standing up, not standing by.” What I like is that it is not only broken down with resources for elementary school, middle school and high school, but it is also broken down with information for parents, teachers/administrators and kids/teens.
The message I am seeing online seems to be making a shift from showing kids what cyberbullying behavior looks like, to actually giving kids the tools to spot cyberbullying and stop it. Is it me? Or do kids seem to be getting the message?
I for one have been drilling it into my kids that they not only should never be mean to other kids, online or off, but that they don’t ever have to be mistreated by anyone either. My message now will progress to letting them know that they should stand up for kids that are being bullied as well and never, ever to participate.
Here are some great, interactive links to share with your kids that are fun and informative.

And don’t forget to visit CommonSenseMedia for many more cyberbullying resources whether you are a parent, teacher or even a victim of cyberbullying. I am hoping that all of these wonderful resources will soon make cyberbullying a thing of the past!
Stay safe out there!
