Yesterday we were disappointed to learn that ZDNet’s Ed Bott had some trouble with McAfee products, which lead him to keep McAfee at the top of his “Not Recommended” list. His poor experience is out of character from what we hear from users and contrary to our own internal compatibility and product testing, and thus it is not indicative of a wider product issue.
McAfee security software is designed to maximize security and functionality, while minimizing the impact on end-user productivity. There’s often a very fine balance we have to sustain in order to keep our users safe without getting in their way. Unfortunately there are times when McAfee products, like other security software, cannot perfectly maintain this balance, and further assistance may be required. We regret that we were not provided the opportunity to remedy Ed’s issues via customer service which is available free of charge.
McAfee listens very carefully to the details surrounding any negative experiences from journalists, as well as from our customers, and we take these types of one-off issues very seriously. We do everything we can to thoroughly analyze these issues as part of our ongoing commitment and quest to continually enhance and refine the experiences of our users.
