McAfee Leadership Evolution: What Partners Need to Know (by Alex Thurber)

Yesterday we announced the appointment of Michael Decesare and Todd Gebhart as co-presidents of McAfee. Dave DeWalt will continue to provide strategic guidance and counsel to the company and customers as a nonemployee member of the McAfee Board.

Here are three things I’d like to highlight regarding this announcement.

1) Channels remains one of the five key priorities for McAfee, meaning day-to-day operations will not change and we will continue to innovate and invest in the tools, training, programs and resources that will fuel mutual success. A primary example of our channel innovation and investment is our recently introduced SMB Specialization.

2) Mike and Todd are channel advocates with the ideal balance of consumer and corporate expertise to drive McAfee’s business with our partners well into the future.

Mike hired me to lead channels here at McAfee and has been an instrumental supporter of changing the McAfee enterprise sales culture to be more channels centric. I am confident partners will only see further improvements in this area as Mike moves into his new role. In addition, Mike and I lead the commercial (mid-market) steering committee, which is a 100% channels led business for McAfee.

As for Todd, he has been the driving force behind our consumer sales growth, which is nearly 100% channel driven. Todd also leads our mobility initiative and agrees that together with our partners securing communications from corporate email servers all the way to the mobile device is a massive joint opportunity.

3) Dave DeWalt will continue to provide strategic guidance and counsel to the company and customers as a nonemployee director of the McAfee Board. Dave has been a tremendous leader who will be missed, but like any good leader he has built a very strong executive team that will continue our channel momentum.

To hear from Mike and Todd directly I encourage you (our partners) to attend Focus 11, October 18-20, 2011 in Las Vegas. In the mean time please feel free to ask questions or provide comments to this blog.

Thank you for your continued partnership,

Alex
