A new engine to drive detection: Faster than ever!

McAfee Avert Labs proudly released a new version of it’s core technology late last week. The 5300 Scan Engine is the most recent major release, and boasts significant performance optimizations in terms of scan and initialization times – in addition to a 42% improvement in memory usage. As the number and types of malware continues to grow at an ever increasing rate, Avert has worked hard to include functionality in the engine to enable better detection. Features such as more effective emulation techniques and cutting edge Fingerprinting technology continue to enable our anti-malware researchers to be ahead of the game in terms of generic detections as we field thousands of new samples on a daily basis. In addition to a number of other features, we’ve added support for a few more platforms including Solaris 10 on Intel x86 and x64. Customers have tested the new engine out in the field over the last few months in it’s Beta form, and it is now the final version available for elective download from our site.

We will be auto-updating our Enterprise level customers at the end of the month in an effort to deliver the best detection and performance possible. Subsequently, Avert will no longer support the 5200 Engine after January 31, 2009.
