We’ve seen the many cases of Spyware-makers being brought to justice and paying hefty fines because of their immoral practices and ill-gotten gains. (We hope to see more of these cases thanks to the work of the FTC, CDT, and Anti-Spyware Coalition)
We’ve seen cases of corporate espionage, like the Israeli couple who are serving time in prison for making spyware and charging companies for their services of spying and stealing data.
We’ve even seen cases of people who used Spyware with the intent of spying on their spouses getting thrown in jail. As was the case in the “Jealous Spyware Husband” who spent £100 on spyware to monitor his wife because he thought she was cheating on him and eventually killed her. He is now serving a life sentence.
But this is the first case I’ve seen where someone may receive prison time because of their negligence for not removing spyware from a PC”¦ In Norwich, CT, a substitute teacher faces prison time because the classroom computer she was teaching with was infected with Spyware and she exposed her 7th grade students to pornographic images due to the pop-ups that the Spyware was generating. Julie Amero was convicted on Friday, January 5, 2007 of four counts of risk of injury to a minor and faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
Is it not bad enough that spyware-makers are stealing our identity, capturing our data, annoying us with pop-ups, slowing down our Internet connection, and crashing our PCs? Now they are making their victims liable for the crap that they insidiously put on our computers!

Dayna; once you click on the “start” button for Vista, at the very bottom under all “All Programs” you should see a search bar. When you run the McAfee scan, it will tell you the location of the file. Type that into the search bar and hit enter. Delete whatever comes up. It will look similar to this:
C:\Users\DAYNA\AppData\LocalLow\FunWebProducts\Installr\Cache\
Your capitalized name is the unkown here…I don’t know how your PC is named…Hope this helps
I just did a scan on my site and I have an unwanted program tried to remove it and couldn`t remove the program Artemis!DBBAFE1C90D1 what can I do about this

This little bugger has been showing up in my Macafee scans lately and I can’t get rid of it. Looks as though I am not alone.
How do we get rid of it?????
Artemis!DBBAFE1c90d1 on my Mcafee scan, I think its a scam to dump more money into Mcafee, why do they not fix this problem? If my computer goes to hell I, am up poop creek since I’m still paying it off. Mcafee needs to step up and resolve these problems… thats why I payed extra when I purchased the package.
Please help me get rid of artemis!DBBAFE1C90D1!
Thanks Lee your recommendation for removing the Artemis!DBBAFE1C90D1 worked.
I also have Artemis!DBBAFE1C90D1 but cannot remove it. Funny part is I have two spy sweepers, McAfee and Webroot, Webroot doesn’t even pick it up.

I have been having the same problem with this

What’s the deal with it?

My kids use our PC to play on-line games which some of which are downloaded to the PC. I believe the above file/program has connections with one of the game providers.
McAfee detected this program for me but couldn’t remove it which is rubbish so here is how I got rid of it.
Drill down/browse to the following directory (Vista):
C:\Users\Fred Bloggs (where Fredd Bloggs is the directory/folder named on the account you have logged in as)\AppData\LocalLow\FunWebProducts\Installr\Cache\ and delete any data in the ‘cache’ folder.
I then rebooted and run another scan and the program wasn’t picked up as running or being there.
This may or may not work for others so no guarantees.

My computer is set to scan so often. and this file cannot be deleted completely. For some unknown reason.. Is this something I need to worry about? I don’t even know what it is. Thanks

Adware-BHO.gen.g
this cannot be removed
whats the problem
after reading much about this teacher’s problem, i am left to wonder where the IT person was during all this and why mcafee has taken an attitude that the teacher was responsible for the spyware (or its removal). while the article tries to take on a tone of conciliatory feelings, it quite clearly makes claim that the teacher is negligent. how wrong can mcafee be?
A crime did occur…to the teacher. The real criminal in the case is the person that did not want to spend the ten bucks to update the blocking software. We really need to outlaw the unauthorized dumping of advertisement bots onto a PC.
“pop-ups that the Spyware was generating”
Just a small detail: Spyware is what sits quitely and steals your data. The pop-up generators are called adware.
