Come join our webinar on Wednesday, January 30 with NSS Labs to hear what they have to say about how security management relates to overall security effectiveness and your bottom line. I’ll be moderating a lively discussion between McAfee and NSS Labs on ‘The Halo Effect of Superior Network Security Management’. NSS Labs is known for their IPS benchmarks, but blocking rate and throughput are not the only factors you should have in mind.
Most network intrusion prevention systems (IPS) have highly tunable policies and alerts. Yet I find that most organizations simply use the default settings. Why? They’ve got bigger fish to fry. No one wants to spend their day in the weeds of an IPS alert console. If that’s the case, however, how does a hands-off management approach affect security levels? And are their ways to minimize operational effort yet maximize security?
The truth is that the answer varies widely depending on what technology you’re using. Ease of network security management can have a halo effect on an organization’s ability to be effective in both blocking attacks and dealing with breach events. This is one of the reasons that NSS Labs includes many more evaluation factors in its testing of IPS products than just blocking rate. Come hear more about this as McAfee’s Ryan Wuensch and NSS Labs’ Frank Artes discuss these issues in their upcoming webinar.
