Earlier this month, Gartner published its annual Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection, which evaluates vendors who offer Mobile Data Protection (MDP) products on both ability to execute and completeness of vision.
We believe integration of MDP into McAfee’s Total Protection suites and McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) management architecture is among the most successful by an endpoint protection platform vendor, and McAfee has set the bar for MDP market performance.
As we’ve discussed before here in the blog, the consumerization of IT in the corporate world has created a new playing field for enterprise security teams. The sheer diversity of devices, compounded by closed and hosted operating systems, has resulted in some new and unique challenges specific to corporate mobile environments. Still, we have many customers coming forward to ask, “I understand the importance of data loss prevention for my organization; but where do I start?”
The truth is that there is no single silver bullet for mobile DLP. There must be a combination of best practices and process controls from the network all the way down to the application level to address the data loss challenges of BYOD, managed and unmanaged devices, and cloud applications.
In light of this, McAfee took a different approach to data loss prevention. In addition to the set of policies we use to evaluate and log violations, we also log all outgoing data using unique Capture technology available with McAfee DLP. We hash the information, index it, and perform analytics, giving customers a faster and more efficient way to leverage data:
