As the clock struck midnight, I was mentally ticking off all the things that we achieved as a business throughout 2013. I felt really proud. But within a blink, I realized that more than being proud, I was appreciative. The teams behind our network security products are incredible. They are innovative. They care about our customers. They want to make a difference. My New Year’s toast was to them.
What’s exciting is that the industry is toasting them too. Throughout the year, many of our network security products have been honored by security experts, analysts, testing labs, and media. We ended a great year with three more reasons to feel appreciative.
1. McAfee Data Loss Prevention is Magic
Cheers to Gartner for positioning McAfee as a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention, December 2013 for the fourth consecutive year. I’m appreciative of our product teams because I know how much effort and innovation goes into making these products outstanding. Then, when we receive what we feel is validation from the industry, it makes all the hard work and late nights seem worth it. Content-aware DLP technologies perform content inspection of data at rest or in motion. But, “…to be considered for the Gartner Magic Quadrant, products must support sophisticated detection techniques that extend beyond simple keyword matching and regular expressions and must be considered enterprise DLP solutions.” We’re kicking off the New Year with a feature-rich solid solution that just keeps leading the way.
2. Intrusion Prevention Systems is Great with Eight
Gartner again recognized our leadership strengths in 2013 by positioning McAfee as a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for Intrusion Prevention Systems, December 2013. For the eighth consecutive year, we were recognized in the Magic Quadrant for “Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute.” During a year when we were heads down on the acquisition of Stonesoft and the integration of those products, our Network Security Platform product teams made sure that our stand-alone IPS solution still led the way.
3. The Network Security Platform is ‘Right Up’ There
Up and to the right is always on our minds at McAfee. This is where analysts like Gartner and NSS Labs position vendors who execute well against their current vision and are well positioned for tomorrow. I’m proud to say that McAfee ended the year on a high note with NSS Labs’ strong review of McAfee’s IPS NS-Series. Our NS9200 blocked 97.5% of attacks against server applications, 93.2% of attacks against client applications, and 95.1% overall. Our solution was effective against all evasion techniques tested, passed all stability and reliability tests, and was rated at 29,291 Mbps – even higher than the performance we claim.
We rounded out our year with three great reasons to toast to a New Year. If our momentum in 2013 continues into 2014, I cannot wait to see what I get to write about next. Cheers to you and your successes in 2014.
